Castelfeder arises between Montagna and Ora. Castelfeder is a prehistoric and Roman as well as early Medieval settlement characterised by the remnants of several structures and buildings on a large hilltop. Tribes from the Stone and the Bronze Age, Raeti, Romans, Romansh people, Ostrogoths, Lombards, Franconians, Baiovarii and medieval nobility and knights all settled here and left behind traces. The upper castle arises approx. 190 m above the bottom of the valley at 405 m. Today sections of the encircling defensive wall with the well-known "Kuchelen” castle walls , and parts of the Barbara chapel from the 6th century are still retained. The sunny hill also impresses with its interesting plants, ancient oak trees and a very special biotope.
