Aldein is one of the oldest settlements on the Regglberg plateau and lies on a gently rolling high plain between Montan and Petersberg. The municipality of Aldein (including the hamlets of Radein and Holen) currently has 1,650 inhabitants.
You can spend your holiday in Aldein in the villages of Aldein, Holen, Jochgrimm, and Radein. Mountain meadows, fields, and alpine pastures shape the scenery during your stay in Aldein, while the “twin peaks” Weißhorn and Schwarzhorn form the impressive backdrop.
As old documents prove, the area around Aldein was already settled by the Bavarians. In a document issued by Emperor Frederick Barbarossa, Aldein is mentioned by name as early as 1175. Even today, the inhabitants of the Regglberg area are sometimes colloquially referred to as “Hessians.” This points to immigrants from non-Bavarian regions.
Aldein is the home of important personalities such as Cardinal J. B. Franzelin, one of the initiators of the First Vatican Council, and Baron Andreas Alois Dipauli von Treuheim, President of the Austrian Supreme Court during the Napoleonic era and the Congress of Vienna, who grew up in Aldein as a farmer’s son and orphan.
