The farmers of the region were subsistence farmers. They kept animals for milk, meat and wool, grew vegetables and fruit and grains. Flax was woven to linen; oats, wheat and rye were milled to flour and baked to bread. The farmer’s oven was only fired up a few times a year, which is why the Schüttelbrot flat-bread was created.

Many farmers still bake their own bread. On the Unichhof farm in Aldein you can buy the best farmer’s bread. If you would like to knead the dough for yourself and bake rolls, you can try your hand in the nature park house Truden. The dates can be found in the weekly programme.
