General description
The small St. Cyprian Chapel is a late Romanesque structure featuring a barrel vault, a rounded apse, and a low tower. The exterior frescoes from the 17th century are particularly striking: they depict the miraculous saving of the Platzlinder meadow. While God hurls lightning from the clouds, Cyprian and Justina spread their protective cloaks over the meadow and the grazing herd.
The fresco recalls an old tradition suggesting that the original main settlement of Tiers was not in today’s village center but here in St. Cyprian.
The chapel can only be viewed from the outside
, as the interior is not accessible.
Description to arrive at destination
The chapel is located directly along the road in St. Cyprian, at the intersection St. Cyprian – Weißlahnbad.
Shortdescription
St. Cyprian Chapel is located in the hamlet of the same name in Tiers and is a popular photo spot – especially with the Rosengarten as a backdrop.
Author's tip
From St. Cyprian Chapel you can start a historical circular walk that leads past St. Cyprian Chapel, St. Sebastian Chapel, and the Parish Church of St. George. A great little tour for anyone interested in history and culture.
visible from the outside: yearlong
