The E5 – one of Europe’s most famous long-distance trails
The European long-distance trail E5 connects Pointe du Raz on Brittany’s Atlantic coast with the city of Verona. Covering around 3,200 kilometers, it crosses five countries – France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, and Italy – offering an extraordinary variety of landscapes and cultures. Particularly popular is the 600-kilometer section from Lake Constance to Verona, which leads through the Alps and is considered a classic among long-distance hikes.
The E5 in Südtirols Süden
Here, alpine landscapes meet Mediterranean charm: majestic peaks, sun-drenched vineyards, and picturesque villages define this special section. Hikers enjoy not only breathtaking views but also the culinary richness of the region – from traditional South Tyrolean specialties to fine wines.
An experience that uniquely combines nature, flavor, and culture.
Stage 7: Deutschnofen – Oberradein
The stage begins in the village center of Deutschnofen and immediately delights with magnificent views of the surrounding landscape. Before long, the pilgrimage church of
Maria Weißenstein, with its impressive basilica, invites visitors to stop for a short visit. The route continues via the Lahner Alm, an ideal spot for an enjoyable break, and then on to the
Bletterbach Geopark, where fascinating insights into the Earth’s geological history await. After crossing the impressive gorge, the stage ends in the peaceful village of Oberradein.
Stage 8: Oberradein – Gfrill
The stage starts in the village of Radein at the church and leads through an idyllic landscape of mountain meadows and farmsteads toward Gfrill, above Salurn. Following quiet paths and short road sections, the route reaches the mountain village of Truden in the nature park, an ideal place for a relaxing break. While passing through the village, a visit to the Truden Nature Park House is well worthwhile, offering fascinating insights into the landscape and wildlife of the nature park; afterwards, the route passes the Kneipp facility in Truden, which invites hikers to enjoy a refreshing pause.
Continuing through shady forest, the trail reaches the Trudner Horn Alm and then follows a narrow hiking path to the picturesque lakes, the Weißsee and the somewhat hidden Schwarzsee. The destination of the stage is the mountain hamlet of Gfrill at 1,328 meters above sea level, offering beautiful views of the Salurner Klause, where the Kneipp facility in Gfrill provides a pleasant and revitalizing cool-down upon arrival.
