Appiano on the South Tyrolean wine route

Monte, which is also known as the aristocratic centre, has the highest density of historic country houses and castles. The best wines flourish on the slopes here, especially Pinot Blanc.

Frangarto is situated at the foot of Firmiano Castle, near Bolzano and below Cornaiano. The holiday village impresses with its easy accessibility by train, its proximity to the provincial capital and its stunning views of the whole of Val d’Adige and the ridge of Mendola. The popular Adige cycle path also runs through Frangarto.

The tiny hamlet of Missiano is situated above San Paolo, surrounded by mixed woodlands and vineyards. It is known for the triangle of castles with Castello di Appiano, the ruins of Castel Boymont, and Castel Corba.

Vineyards and wineries - in Cornaiano it’s all about wine. It is said that thanks to its extensive cellars Cornaiano was once larger below ground than above - a testimony to centuries of viticulture.

The spring valley and the two swimming lakes Laghi di Monticolo are the highlights of Monticolo, a small oasis in the forest. The dreamy hamlet invites to refreshing fun in the water, extended hikes and adventurous bike tours in Monticolo woods.

Apple orchards with stunning spring blossom and the golf course characterise the hamlet of Riva di Sotto in the flat valley of Val d’Adige. From here you can go on pleasurable bike rides and follow the Via Claudia Augusta to Lake Garda or Merano.

Traditional façades with picturesque oriels along a historic street give San Paolo its characteristic appearance. San Paolo is also famous for its large parish church known as the “Cathedral in the country”. Even the Via Claudia Augusta is said to once have run through San Paolo.

San Michele is the main hamlet of the municipality of Appiano. The hamlet is characterised by numerous impressive country houses and cultural landmarks in Oltradige style. San Michele is also the largest hamlet and the commercial centre.

Predonico and Gaido are situated at above 800 m and are among the higher hamlets of Appiano. This stunning panoramic location gives them a special Alpine flair. Set amidst forest and meadows you enjoy plenty of tranquillity in the hamlets and breathtaking views of Val d’Adige and the holiday region Bolzano and environs.
